by Justin Miller

The Farmingdale State Rams Division II hockey team has two games this upcoming weekend. After suffering back-to-back losses, they’ll be seeking to pick up some big wins over a pair of Empire Conference rivals. The Rams will be hosting the Sacred Heart University Pioneers on Saturday and playing the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights on the road on Sunday.

Saturday’s home game will be the second meeting between the Rams and the Pioneers this season. Their first meeting was on the road in a high-scoring game. The Rams lost that contest by a 6-5 final score and will be looking to even the season series. Brendan O’Donnell leads the Pioneers in scoring with 13 goals, while Jack Kinahan has a team-leading 18 points. The Pioneers are also the beneficiaries of seven other players scoring in double digits. Saturday’s game will take place at Islanders Iceworks at 9:30 p.m. and can also be viewed on LiveBarn.

Sunday’s game will see the Rams take on the Scarlet Knights for the second time this season. The first matchup was in Farmingale’s home opener, in which they had their largest margin of victory. They scored nine goals against the Scarlet Knights in what was a 9-1 victory for the team. The Scarlet Knights are led by Ryan Hille, who has a team-high 24 points, and Gavin Rieger, who has a team-leading 12 goals. Alex Angress is also a player of note, having a team-high five power play goals and being second on the team in points with 18 total.
