Farmingdale - DII Suffers Overtime Loss to Fairfield

by Justin Miller

Friday night’s game saw the Farmingdale State Rams Division II team take on the Fairfield University Stags Division III team. The game was a back-and-forth affair in which Kevin Manzi opened up scoring in the last minute of the first period. A Stags power play opportunity in the second period resulted in Owen Murphy scoring to tie the game. With 22 seconds to go in the period, James Jensen found the back of the net to send the Rams into the third period with a 2-1 lead.

However, another Stags power play goal from Anthony DeFilio again tied the game at the 12:24 mark of the third. Just two minutes later, Jensen scored his second goal of the game to get Farmingdale back on top. But with a little over five minutes to go, Joseph Scardino got the game-tying goal that would eventually send this contest to overtime. In the overtime period, the Stags got a two-on-one opportunity in which DeFilio scored his second goal of the game. Fairfield would beat Farmingdale by a 4-3 final score in this one.
