Farmingdale - DII Weekend Recap (10/21 & 10/22)
The Farmingdale State Rams DII hockey team had one win and one loss over the weekend. The winning performance came about in Saturday's game against the Hofstra Pride Divison III team. With a tie game in the second period, the Rams would take control. Bobby Lane scored a power play goal at 18:53, followed by another goal from Marco Malandruccolo shortly after. The Pride answered back with a power play goal pf their own from Matthew Materazo in the final seconds of the period. Playing with a one-goal lead in the third, Farmingdale prevented Hofstra from finding the back of the net again. Nicholas D'Alessandro and Matthew Heinssen scored of pair of insurance goals to secure a 4-1 Rams victory.
Farmingdale's loss came against their Empire Conference rivals, the Sacred Heart Pioneers. James Jensen scored the game's opening goal on the power play to give the Rams an early advantage. However, Brendan O'Donnell would proceed to score a natural hat trick, giving the Pioneers a 3-1 lead in the second. D'Alessandro and O'Donnell would go back and forth, each scoring a pair of goals in the second, setting a up a 5-3 game in the third. Barry Burke scored a goal at 18:25 in the third to put Sacred Heart up by three, but the game wasn't over just yet. Peter Abazis scored a power play goal at 14:32, with D'Alessandro completing his hat trick just 31 seconds later to bring Farmingdale to within one. Despite the late push, Farmingdale couldn't find the equalizer and suffered a 6-5 loss.
