Farmingdale - DII Weekend Recap (10/6 & 10/7)
The Farmingdale State Rams DII hockey team went 1-1 in their two games played over the past weekend. They suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night when they visited Stony Brook's DIII team. The Seawolves erupted out of the gate with three unanswered goals, two of which were scored by Nikita Vorotnikov. Colin Cross scored the only Rams goal of the period at 2:11 to cut the lead down to two heading into the first intermission. However, Stony Brook again went on a 3-0 scoring run to take a commanding 6-1 lead over the Rams. Bobby Lane and Brendan Dixson both scored later in the game to bring it to a 6-3 final score.
The University of New Haven's DIII team provided another tough test for the Rams on Saturday. Peter Abazis scored the game's first goal and got Farmingdale off to a good start. But the Chargers responded with two of their own to take a 2-1 lead into the second. From there, the Rams went on a 4-0 scoring run through the start of the third period. Cross and Dixson scored two apiece on this run to give the Rams a 5-2 lead. Facing a three-goal deficit, New Haven did not go away quietly. Chad Feola scored at 15:04 and Michael Pilato scored at 11:56 in the third to come within one goal of tying the game. Despite the high-pressure situation, the Rams stayed composed and held the Chargers at bay to take a 5-4 victory.
