Farmingdale DII - Weekend Recap (11/3 & 11/4)
The Farmingdale State Rams Division II hockey team remained perfect at home, picking up two more wins over the weekend. In Friday's matchup, they faced off against the Hofstra Pride Division III team for the second time this year. The Rams dominated this game in the early going. A three-goal first period saw Matthew Heinssen, Marco Malandruccolo, and Louis Saccone find the back of the net. Despite the hot start, Hofstra started to creep back into the game. Chirstopher Del Pennino scored a power play goal at the 13:05 mark of the second period, followed by a Brendan Yerkes goal at the 7:05 mark. James Jensen scored towards the end of the period to send the Rams into the second intermission with a two-goal lead. James Van Eron cut the Rams' lead down to one for the Pride early in the third. However, Bobby Lane was quick to respond and put the Rams back up by two. Matthew Materazo provided Hofstra with a big third period goal to make it a 5-4 game down the final stretch. With the Pride's net empty in the last minute of the third, Brendan Dixson scored an empty net goal to secure a 6-4 victory for the Rams.
Saturday's contest saw Farmingdale take on the Fairfield University Stags DIII team for their inaugural meeting. Malandruccolo opened the first period with a goal to put the Rams up, but he was countered by Kyle Dillon later in the period. Dixson broke the stalemate a minute later and sent the Rams into the second with a 2-1 lead. Heinssen scored the only goal of the second period in the first minute to double the Rams' advantage. Kevin Manzi got the Rams up to a 4-1 lead early in the third, but the Stags weren't out of this game just yet. A goal by Connor Cavallaro, followed by a power play marker from Jack Perreault, created a one-goal game late in the period. At 18:29, Ian Ribarich gave the Rams an insurance goal that sealed a 5-3 victory over Fairfield.
