by Sofia Petito

In a touching and emotional tribute to the memory of Gerrin Hagen, Farmingdale's hockey team faced off against Quinnipiac in a thrilling game this past weekend. The final score of 6-3 might indicate a dominant performance by Farmingdale, but it was the spirit and motivation behind their play that made this game truly special.

Before the puck dropped, Gerrin’s parents gave the Farmingdale team a heartfelt pep talk in the locker room. Eric Immel, a player for Farmingdale, shared that the words from Gerrin's parents touched their hearts and filled them with a determination that there was no way they were going to lose this game. The emotional connection to Gerrin's family, combined with their desire to honor his memory, fueled the team's performance on the ice.

The G2H Foundation, established in Gerrin's honor, has been doing incredible work. The turnout for this game was nothing short of amazing, with supporters coming from all over to show their love for Gerrin and the foundation.

Chris Hagen, Gerrin's father, spoke about the essence of "Living Like Gerrin." It's a slogan that encapsulates the values and character traits that Gerrin embodied. To "Live Like Gerrin'' means to be a friend to all and to lead by example. It's about being kind, compassionate, and supportive of others, on and off the ice.

Throughout the game, Farmingdale's players embodied this motto. They displayed incredible sportsmanship, played with unwavering dedication, and showed genuine camaraderie. It wasn't just a victory for Farmingdale; it was a victory for the values that Gerrin Hagen represented.

The victory on the scoreboard was a fitting tribute to Gerrin, but the lasting impact of the game went beyond the numbers. It was a reminder of the power of community, the strength of unity, and the enduring legacy of a young man whose life was tragically cut short.

Farmingdale's players, Gerrin's family, and the Long Beach community had come together to honor a remarkable individual, and they succeeded in doing just that. In the end, the true victory was the message of friendship, kindness, and leading by example—lessons that we can all learn from Gerrin's life.
